Suffolk County Math League
High School mathematics Competition
Long Island, NY
Welcome to the 2020 - 2021
Suffolk County Mathematics League Competition!
Hi Everyone!
My name is Mike Curry. As you are probably aware, the SCMTA (Suffolk County Mathematics Teachers Association) has ceased their operations. Many requests were forwarded with regard to the continuation of the Suffolk County Mathematics League and its High School League Competition. I am the one who picked up that baton.
Here is a little information about me. I grew up on Long Island. I am a John Glenn High School graduate. I went to Stony Brook University ultimately earning my PHd in Applied Mathematics. I am fully invested in school level mathematics competitions. Those who know me know that I hold key positions in the ARML (www.arml.com), NYSML (www.nysml.com), MAML (Massachusetts Association of Mathematics Leagues), MML, GBML (Greater Boston Mathematics League), MOEMS,…organizations. If you already knew what some of those acronyms stand for, consider yourself to be well informed. 🙂
We are all looking forward to a great competition this year.
Remote Competition Option
This will not be a typical year with regard to the league competition. Many schools in our league do not have the option to travel to other schools to compete. Some school are not permitting any in-person club\team gatherings of any kind. We have decided to allow all schools in the league to compete remotely.
Schedule
Meet 1 – October 19, 2020
Meet 2 – November 16, 2020
Meet 3 – December, 7 2020
Meet 4 – January 11, 2021
Meet 5 – February 8, 2021
Distribution of Contest Materials
Contest materials will be distributed the Wednesday that precedes the meet via an email to those coach’s that are hosting competitors. Each coach will need to keep the contest materials secure and provide enough copies for each competitor. We will be using full sheets of paper rather than the “slips” of paper used in the past.
